Quality Services for Trauma Patients

Accidents and injuries can happen anytime, and they do not always occur during your doctor’s regular office hours. If you’ve been in an accident, suffered a fall, experienced a sports injury, or have been bitten by an animal, it’s important to visit a trauma center as soon as possible to prevent future complications. The board-certified doctors and nurses at Castle Hills Emergency Room are available in our Carrollton, TX center 24/7 for your emergency medical needs.

What Is Trauma?

The word “trauma” can be a bit confusing, as there are two widely used definitions. The first refers to a distressing experience that causes psychological damage. The second refers to a physical event that results in injuries, such as broken bones, wounds, or lacerations. Quite often, the two happen simultaneously, when someone experiences psychological shock from a serious injury.

What Defines an Injury?

Injury is a broad term that refers to any damage that is done to the body. Injuries can happen at any place and time, whether you’re at home, at work, driving, or engaging in physical activities. The severity varies as well, from minor wounds that can be taken care of with at-home first aid, to serious ones that require immediate medical intervention. Common types of injuries include abrasions, punctures, broken bones, sprains, and burns.

What Are the Symptoms of an Injury?

The symptoms experienced from an injury will depend on the type and severity of the injury. Common symptoms include bruises, bleeding, swelling, and pain. Some symptoms can be signs of life-threatening conditions, such as chest pain, paralysis, breathing problems, or significant trauma to the head, neck, or back. If you are noticing serious symptoms, come to our trauma center right away.

  • Cuts and Puncture Wounds – Cuts and puncture wounds need to be cleaned to prevent infection, and may need stitches to fully heal.
  • Collapsed Lung – Pneumothorax occurs when air escapes the lungs, and then fills the space outside the lungs, making it difficult to breathe.
